When I started my placement at Birmingham-based video agency Tinker Taylor in January 2019 as part of my MA, I was assuming I’d complete my 10 weeks and then that would be it. However, when TT’s Production Assistant left about halfway into my time there, I found myself in the unique and slightly awkward position where I had a job offer as well as a dissertation to submit! Not being able to resist a challenge, I accepted the job and worked 4 days a week while completing the MA. After graduating I became a full-time member of the Tinker Taylor team, working with their exciting range of healthcare, education and public sector clients. As Production Assistant and later Researcher, I was involved throughout the production process, from finding new opportunities and writing pitches to running on shoots and even editing. With two amazing years with the TT team and loads of good experience under my belt, I found a new opportunity at another Midlands-based agency in 2021, events and video company DRPG. I started as Production Co-ordinator, but I soon realised I missed being out on shoots most days. Thankfully DRPG’s ethos is Anything’s Possible, and after a few months and a LOT of meetings discussing my goals, I was able to transfer to the location team as Camera Assistant. In this role I’m part of a wide variety of projects, ranging from single camera shoots on location to large-scale events and even extended reality in our own green screen studio. In the summer of 2022, I also got the opportunity to be part of the Commonwealth Games thanks to a fellow FTV alumna, working as Camera Assistant on the athletics events at Alexander Stadium.
